When the new Microsoft operating system arrives, namely Windows 8; there will be one welcome addition, the software giant have been very quick to confirm that there will be a Netflix application.
Microsoft have been showing off some of the capabilities of their forthcoming surface tablet range, which of course runs with Windows 8, in the demonstrations they were keen to show off the brand new Netflix app. The app looked pretty nifty indeed, with the head guy at Windows, Steve Sinofsky stating that the Netflix application will have support for the semantic zoom feature that will be part of the Windows 8 Metro user interface. This bodes very well as it pretty much confirms that the popular streaming device should have an application ready when Windows 8 is launched later on this year.
In recent times Microsoft haven’t always been flavour of the month when they decide to launch a new operating system, with many consumers and critics alike suggesting that they haven’t quite got things right. The good news for Netflix fans, this time out, is that they will have a custom made app from day one; one of course that will be able to take advantage of the new platforms updated technology.
Massive boost for both Microsoft & Netflix
Of course previous Netflix apps for Microsoft products have included the likes of the xbox360, which at the time proved to be a great boost for the games console; in so much as making it a fully-fledged entertainment centre, allowing it to be much more competitive in regards to its rival, the Sony PS3. Of course it shouldn’t be forgotten that this was also a major coup for Netflix as it was a real factor in them significantly increasing their customer base.
Microsoft is playing their cards close to their chest at present, with no confirmed pricing for their new tablet; although they have been quick to suggest that it will be competitive with other tablets and ultra-books that are in the marketplace. Specification is another grey area, although it is thought that it will feature gorilla glass and have the use of a magnetic stylus that will attach to the top of the device.
Of course if you are reading this post then there is a very good chance that you are already a Netflix subscriber, and will probably be aware that Netflix are planning to offer multi-streaming later on this year; good news all-round if you have plans to add yet another streaming-capable device into your household.
