Blockbuster is strict an American thing, so I’m assuming that you’re from The US and on vacation or abroad for a while studying/working.
I’ll also assume that you chose Blockbuster to be your online streaming site of choice because you’ve got something personal against Netflix for trying to squeeze more money out of you with Qwikster and that whole fiasco.
These are just guesses.
Either way, you’ve found out that Blockbuster Streaming outside The USA is unavailable, just like Netflix – less so in fact.
The solution is the same though. Get a VPN service.
If you’ve never heard of a VPN, it can sound a bit daunting – what the hell is a VPN?
There are a lot of uses for VPNs, not just accessing blockbuster, but not all apply to us here. Privacy, security, and anonymity online are some of them.
What does apply to our situation is that we can use a VPN to change the IP address of our smartphone or computer. That means it makes us look like we’re in The USA, not outside of it.
What can I say, computers are dumb.
So all you have to do is sign into the VPN, then go to the Blockbuster site and sign into your account. It’s as simple as that. The site may think you’re in another location in The US, but it won’t be able to see your ‘Fake IP’.
If you haven’t already got an account, you should be using Netflix anyway, so I won’t get into how to sign up, because you may or may not need to give a physical US IP address. With Netflix I know you can use Paypal or gift certificates. The same may work for Blockbuster, but I haven’t tried.
Here are 2 VPN services I recommend based on my experiences.
HideMyAss may be the number one choice – it certainly gets the most clicks on the site. Maybe it’s just in the name. You can tell that VPNs are for privacy and anonymity because with a name like “HideMyAss” it sure sounds like something hackers would use. It’s not. It’s just a VPN service that can allow you to get a US IP address on your phone and computer. It’s one of the cheaper ones, and it comes with a 30 day money back guarantee.
—> Go To HMA
12VPN is about the same price, minus the option to sign up for one month. The advantage here is that you get very good customer service, which is not true of HMA. Good customer service counts for a lot when you don’t know what you’re doing and need to ask a lot of questions. I’ll assume you’re on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop because you’re on vacation, but maybe not. The point I’d like to make is that 12VPN supports more devices than your standard iPhone/Android/Mac/Windows setup. Check ’em out.
